LISTEN: Otosan team up with PT for ‘Start Again’
Otosan are Ryan Dickinson and Ultan Burke. A house duo with one foot on each side of the Tasman, but both planted firmly on the dancefloor. The pair’s sound is already unmistakable, combining classic house grooves with modern vocal hooks that cross over from dancefloors to radio. Now Otosan have teamed up with New Zealand’s renowned R&B vocalist PT (formerly Pieter T) for their new slice of house magic, ‘Start Again’.
“We had been wanting to work with PT again for a while now after he featured on our first ever single ‘Do You Feel It’ and co-wrote the vocals for the follow-up ‘Lights’. We met up with PT in Auckland to record vocals and he had decided on a new instrumental of ours which was only days old at the time. PT wrote and recorded all of the vocals with us in a handful of hours and the track was mostly completed that day. Lyrically, given that we were writing this the day before New Year’s Eve, the idea of starting again came up. We let this core idea lead the direction and based it around the idea of a relationship starting again. Two people that have been together, fallen apart, tried being just friends, but now finally given in and letting their real emotions show.”
Having only teamed up as a duo in the past two years, Otosan have had a flying start. Their debut single ‘Do You Feel It’ came out in 2018 and was immediately added to a swag of big playlists, racking up over 1.9 million streams on Spotify to date. Fast forward to 2020 and their most recent single ‘Feel So Right’, a collaboration with bass house aficionado Marten Horger, was released on Tiesto’s Musical Freedom label which immediately gained DJ support from a range of heavy hitters including Diplo, Dillon Francis and David Guetta, receiving plays on BBC Radio 1, triple j and SiriusXM and a 9/10 review in UK’s Mixmag.
On the gig front they have played main stage support for acts such as Duke Dumont, Riton & Kah-Lo, Deadmau5 and Nic Fanciulli, have headlined their own events at Auckland’s Impala Nightclub and Sydney’s Ministry of Sound Club among many others, and were selected to play APRA’s Oceania Electronic showcase at Amsterdam Dance Event in 2019.
